ZZ Top Celebrate 50 Years with Album, Tour

ZZ Top: Goin' 50In another piece of evidence that 1969 was an incredible year for music, ZZ Top was formed. Now the iconic rock band is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a new album and a massive tour.

Goin’ 50 is packed with tracks from the band’s five-decade career from their debut to their peak years in the 80’s to their recent work. That’s music from each of ZZ Top’s fifteen albums, plus two bonus tracks – “Salt Lick” and “Miller’s Farm” – that were recorded in ’69 before the band was fully formed. Goin’ 50 is available as a 3-CD set, a vinyl set and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).

It’s hard to imagine the trio of Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard, and Dusty Hill are still together, let alone touring, but they’re now embarking on a three-month outing that will take them from Coast to Coast.

“It’s been five decades, and I think we’re starting to get pretty good at all this!” Gibbons wrote. “We’re truly excited to be appearing across the continent this summer and fall, playing our bluesy kind of rock like we started in ’69. The beards, Frank’s excepted, are perhaps a bit longer, yet nothing else has changed. We’re keeping it that way.”

Hill told CBS News that they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. “I’ve told people, I said, ‘Look, if I retired after a few months I would be at your house singing you a song or something!'” he exclaimed.
