Motörhead “1979” Box Set Now Available
Get ready to bang your head: Motörhead has released a new box set called 1979 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s prolific year. Available in several versions, the core of the release focuses on reissues of Overkill and Bomber with plenty of live material from soundboard recordings.
“1979 was MOTÖRHEAD year – the year of ‘Overkill’ and ‘Bomber’,” Nuclear Blast writes. “MOTÖRHEAD, the loudest band in the world, with the power and force of a hundred pneumatic drills they destroyed the nation over and again and no-one, repeat no-one, remained unaffected by them – everyone was torn limb from limb. The albums ‘Overkill’ and ‘Bomber’ were ten times more powerful than their first album ‘Motörhead’, which was a killer in itself.”
Both of the studio albums have been half-speed mastered from the original tapes for dynamic range. The live recordings include a gig from Friars in Aylesbury, a set from La Rotunde in Le Mans, and a disc called “The rest from ’79” that collects B-sides, outtakes and rare tracks from the year.
The band’s lineup at the time included frontman Lemmy Kilmister, guitarist Eddie Clarke, and drummer Phil Taylor. Check out their intense energy in this previously unreleased version of “Bomber”:
Other goodies in the box set include a tri-fold 7″ of the “No Class” single, a forty-page book of interviews and never before seen photos, a Bomber tour program, sheet music, and a Motörhead ’79 Badge Set.
1979 is available now in a box set and super deluxe box set. You can also get the individual 40th anniversary albums of Bomber (CD/Vinyl) and Overkill (CD/Vinyl).
