Bass of the Week: BlueLotus Basses BLSC4

BlueLotus Basses BLSC4 BassThis week we’re checking out the BlueLotus Basses BLSC4, a singlecut neck-through design built by Matt Scarpa. The luthier crafted it around a five-piece quarter-sawn hard maple and wenge neck.

“The three-piece body features a highly figured quilted maple top over an alder body and wenge tone layer sandwiched in-between,” Scarpa writes. “Alder, being light in weight, helps keep the overall weight of this instrument down. Tonally, alder provides a nice warm low-end, while the wenge tone layer provides growl and punch.”

Other features include an ebony fingerboard and a quilted maple headstock. The pickups are a pair of Norstrand Big Singles matched with a Nordstrand 3-band active/passive 3b-5a preamp.

“My goal and ambition for BlueLotus Basses is to continue to build bass guitars, to learn, and to work towards developing new and interesting bass guitar instruments, superior in sound, craftsmanship, and ingenuity,” Scarpa says.

We’re looking forward to more!
