Shavo Odadjian Announces New Band

North Kingsley in Studio

System of a Down seems to be in a recording gridlock. The band will be touring Europe this summer, but that won’t keep bassist Shavo Odadjian from working on his own new music. He’s just revealed a new project called North North Kingsley, which is a trio with Ray Hawthorne and Saro Paparian. Odadjian revealed the group on Instagram with the statement that new music is coming soon.

The release will be under the bassist’s 22Red label. In an interview with Marijuana Retail Report, he explained the meaning of the band’s name.

“When I moved from Armenia to LA, I moved to North Kingsley Drive,” he said. “That was my street, that’s where I grew up and I saw everything there. I started skateboarding there. I witnessed homelessness, the poor, you know, I noticed gangs. I learned about friendship. I saw sex there – there were prostitutes. I grew up there, so it means a lot to me. So when I say that name, that’s my growth, how I became who I am, you know?”
