Pomplamoose: Something

Pomplamoose recently shared this incredible cover of The Beatles’ “Something,” which is a nice duo between Nataly Dawn on bass and vocals and Jack Conte on piano and marimba.

“It’s been a while since Jack and I made something just the two of us in our home studio. Makes me want to do more like this,” Nataly shared.

On top of that, the videography is pretty fantastic too.

Something was “something”. The original Beatles song is bright and cheerful but this rendition is a little on the gloomy side. I found myself feeling somewhat depressed and mournful the more I listened and the video didn’t help matters one bit. I grew up watching the Beatles on shows like Ed Sullivan etc. and I happen to like that song! This attempt at a remake is overkill in an awful way! I wonder, did Paul and Ringo sign off on this?!? ?

This mix was not well thought out. Her voice is very nice. I like the sultry version bit the piano is overbearing and the bass inaudible- that’s a crime as the original bass line is simply majestic. There are certain things you just don’t do… tug on superman’s cape, screw with a beatles tune… as a bass player who’s sings, you’re a good singer but not a good singing bassplayer… pick one … and excel.
