Jon Thorne Launches Label, Releases New Album

The Strangest of Times: The Third Law of MotionJon Thorne has launched a new record label called Two Tree Music, which is kick starting with a new project from the bassist. Thorne, also of Lamb, teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Martin Slattery (Joe Strummer’s Mescaleros, The Hours) to form The Strangest of Times. The group’s debut, The Third Law of Motion, features eerie atmospheres and dystopian grooves that were improvised over a four-day recording session in 2016.

The duo’s sense of space and sonic palette makes for an enthralling listen. Thorne uses his double bass to full effect, achieving various timbres through arco and pizzicato as well as utilizing effects for extra gravity. Get a taste of the album with this clip of “Crowning Thieves”:

The Third Law of Motion is available now through Bandcamp. Thorne will be re-releasing his out of print albums Homestead and Watching The Well on his label in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for those, as well.
