Reader Spotlight: Brian Guy Kelly
Meet Brian Guy Kelly, a bassist from Aston, Pennsylvania who is on a mission to help people chill via his music.
Brian is this week’s No Treble reader in the spotlight (you could be next). Here’s his story…
Bio:
Brian Guy Kelly is an American bassist and producer whose bass-heavy, study beats/Lofi instrumentals have relaxed many during these stressful times. My vision is to help people find a moment in the day to just relax and listen. People are stressed, but music can heal. I produce all singles using my bass and his synth to generate blissful lows. Using the bass on multiple tracks creates a warmth that is unique and chill.
Location:
Aston, Pennsylvania
Years experience:
23 years.
Why I play the bass:
My brother was in a band and when I heard the bass being amplified, I fell in love with the unique sound.
Gear:
I create sounds using my 2002 Ibanez Soundgear, and my Ampeg BA 210. My pedalboard is rotating but my Earthquacker devices Dispatch Master will never leave. When playing live I use a 6×10 Ampeg cab with the Darkglass Alpha Omega 900.
My Influences:
I am influenced by Billy Howerdel, Wayne Shorter, Sarah Longfield, and Janek Gwizdala.
My bass superpower/claim to fame:
Once a month I put out a new chill instrumental track on Spotify under the name Brian Guy Kelly. The tracks are made using only my 4 string bass and synth. You’ll have to listen but you wouldn’t think all those tracks are bass. I use guitar amps and various techniques to differentiate my sound.
