Bass of the Week: Endres Guitars 8-String

Endres 8-String Bass

Scott Hayes dropped us a line saying his pal Eli Endres has some serious bass-building skills. To prove his point, he shared this eight-string bass that the luthier just completed.

It features a short 30-inch scale and is built with a one-piece figured maple body matched to a quartersawn wenge and maple neck. The quartersawn rosewood fingerboard is fitted with 22 Jescar frets.

Other features include Gotoh Resolite tuners for the bass strings, Gotoh guitar tuners for the octaves, and a Schaller bridge. The pickup is a TV Jones Thunder Blade wired passive with 500k volume and tone controls, plus a Pure Tone input jack.

“The bass has a big body sound with a tight & clear attack & chime from the Thunder Blade,” Hayes writes. “Massive in tones while on the petite side. It weighs in at just over 8 pounds and has a huge, edgy sound that’s clear and focused. The awesomely carved offset balances perfectly thanks to Endres’s ergonomic concept.”
