The Double Bass Book Now Available

Jonas Lohse: The Double Bass BookJonas Lohse is an avid enthusiast for all things double bass. That’s why he wrote his book, Das Kontrabass-Buch. Now he’s had bass great Martin Wind translate the tome to English.

The Double Bass Book is a comprehensive look at the instrument’s history and construction with tons of photos and illustrations over its 240 pages. Lohse details important bass makers through the years as well as important players in classical and jazz.

Wind also provided the foreword for the English edition, explaining how much even a deeply knowledgable player like himself learned.

“I hope that you will enjoy this excursion into the world of the double bass as much as I have! I have gained a much deeper understanding of the craftsmanship that goes into making and setting up instruments,” he wrote. “I’m more aware of major technological inventions and the scientific conditions that allow us to experience sound. But most of all, I learned to appreciate even more the wonderful community of bassists that have helped lead the way and elevate our instrument to unknown heights.”

The Double Bass Book is available now in German book and music stores. It can also be purchased directly from Lohse’s website for €39.
