Jeff Matz Joins Mutoid Man

Mutoid Man with Jeff Matz

Mutoid Man shared a good news, bad news situation earlier this year. The good news was they’re working on a new studio album. The bad news was that bassist Nick Cageo had left the group. Now the group has another piece of good news: High on Fire bassist Jeff Matz is their new third member. Matz made the announcement on his social media.

“Very excited to announce that I’ve joined forces with the musical juggernaut that is Mutoid Man,” he wrote. “I became an instant fan of the band around 2015 when Kurt Ballou played me some tracks from the freshly recorded ‘Bleeder’ album, I was completely floored by what I was hearing. Stephen Brodsky and Ben Koller are absolute monster musicians and it’s been a blast jamming with them. We have been working on lots of new music, and I can’t wait to share it with the world! Big thanks to my friend and crushing drummer Chris Maggio for connecting me with these dudes. And to Nick Cageo for your shredding bass playing and awesome writing–I’ll do my best to do your bass lines justice!”

Matz’s first show with the band is at Psycho Las Vegas on Friday, August 20th. That’s their only scheduled show for the time being. The bassist also noted that he is not leaving High On Fire.
