Leones Custom Bass and Kenney James Introduces KJ5 Signature Bass
Leones Custom Bass and bassist Kenney James have teamed up to introduce the KJ5 Signature Bass. Handmade in Indonesia, the five-string bass offers several classic sounds in one package thanks to its three-pickup configuration.
“I’m a huge fan of ’60s and ’70s funk, jazz, R&B, and soul. I love the tones the bass players got back then,” James explains. “But in order to do that, you had to have one bass with ’60s pickups and one with ’70s pickups. I had the idea to have both sounds in one bass guitar.”
The KJ5 is built with a swamp ash body topped with spalted maple as well as a maple neck and Birdseye maple fingerboard. The three handmade Alnico pickups are matched to an EMG b64rl preamp complete with a three-band EQ and active/passive switch. Another mini-switch lets you toggle the pickups between series, single, and parallel modes.
Other features include a Leones H505 bridge, Hipshot Ultralite tuners, and Dunlop strap locks. A gig bag is included.
The Leones Custom Bass KJ5 Signature Bass is available for order at $1500.
