Top 10: The Most Watched Bass Videos (January 2022)
The first month of the new year was a huge one for visits to No Treble. Part of this was due to the videos we shared.
Of the 31 we shared in January, these are the top 10 reader favorites.
1. John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, and Victor Wooten: You Know, You Know
John McLaughlin celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this month. Victor Wooten shared this video on Facebook around that time of McLaughlin, Wooten, and Chick Corea performing Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “You Know, You Know”.
2. VetsAid 2021: Funk #49
Last month, Joe Walsh joined forces with some heavy hitters in the music industry for his “VetsAid 2021: The Basement Show”. Here’s Walsh with Ringo Starr, Benmont Tench, Waddy Wachtel, Leland Sklar, and Russ Kunkel performing “Funk #49”.
3. Charles Berthoud: When They Say You Have Too Many Frets
Charles Berthoud has produced an incredible run of “When They Say…” videos. In this one, he responds to the “You Have Too Many Frets” comment by playing a fretless. It is pretty epic.
4. Federico Malaman: “Donna Lee” Stolen Bass Line
Here’s another fantastic lesson video by Federico Malaman. In this one, he takes two lines from “Donna Lee” and uses them to construct new bass lines. He calls it the "Stolen Bass Line lesson".
5. Julia Hofer: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” Cover
Julia Hofer is bringing it in this new video featuring one of the all-time great bass lines: James Jamerson’s work on “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”.
6. Huw Foster: 5 Louis Johnson Basslines (and How To Play Them)
Huw Foster sent us a new video, focusing on the work of Louis Johnson. In this one, he covers five bass lines by Thunder Thumbs (and how to play them).
7. Giane Rangel: Foi na Cruz
The other night during a No Treble team meeting, Vuyani told me about a few Brazilian bassists to check out. Here’s one of the videos he sent me, with Giane Rangel playing along to Raiz Worship’s “Foi na Cruz”. Giane makes that Sire Marcus Miller V5 go!
8. Ellen & Hovak Alaverdyan: Don’t Stop The Music (Father & Daughter Duet)
Hovak Alaverdyan (Ellen Alaverdyan‘s father) reached out to me with this video, asking me if we’d share it with No Treble readers. In this one, Hovak and Ellen perform their first original tune, “Don’t Stop The Music”.
9. Juliaplaysgroove: Them Changes (Bass Version)
Juliaplaysgroove is starting the new year off with a fresh, new video! In this clip, she takes on my favorite Thundercat tune, “Them Changes.” That Musicman Sterling sounds great, and all the basses are covered.
10. YYNOT: Bastille Day
YYNOT has been on the road again to kick off 2022, and they have a major new addition to the band. Here they are performing Rush’s “Bastille Day” with new vocalist Patty Pershayla. Tim Starace’s bass is so mighty in the mix!
