Joel Quarrington Plays Jazz on “The Music of Don Thompson”
As the former principal bassist for the London Symphony Orchestra, it’s easy to tell that Joel Quarrington is one of the premier classical bassists in the world. Now we get to see a different aspect of his playing with his new album, The Music of Don Thompson.
The record features the bassist playing with Thompson, who is a jazz pianist and arranged music specifically for Quarrington’s exquisite style. The music includes a jazz standard plus original jazz compositions by Thompson.
Although the majority of the album is the duo on their own, the song “Quartet 89” is a bass quartet that has Quarrington joined by Travis Harrison, Joseph Phillips, and Roberto Occhipinti.
Watch Quarrington and Thompson render a gorgeous take on “A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square”:
The Music of Don Thompson is available now on Bandcamp, iTunes, and Amazon MP3.
