Ron Carter Documentary Coming In October

Ron Carter: Finding the Right Notes SoundtrackRon Carter shared a fantastic bit of news in his latest email blast. A new documentary film on the bass icon’s life and music is set to premiere on October 21st.

“Finding The Right Notes” shares the same name as his biography and accompanying audiobook. Details on the film are still very scarce, but we know it was directed by Peter Schnall, who has been working with Carter for several years. (He recently recorded the maestro’s set for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.) Schnall is a seven-time EMMY Award winner as well as the recipient of a Peabody Award.

Carter’s newsletter will reveal the exact time and release locations soon, so we suggest signing up. A double vinyl soundtrack to the film will also be released in November, featuring Jon Batiste, Stanley Clarke, Payton Crossley, Bill Frisell, Jimmy Greene, Russell Malone, Christian McBride, Renee Rosnes, Donald Vega, and the WDR Big Band.

Until then, let’s revisit the Tiny Desk Concert for Carter’s beautiful playing and Schnall’s video work:
