Jon Willis: Brandy

Jon Willis sent us his latest video, with his play along to Looking Glass’s “Brandy.”

“This 1972 hit song has an absolutely beautiful bass line that’s unfortunately slightly buried within the mix. Original bassist Peter Sweval wrote and recorded a textbook example of how the bass could follow chord changes, accent vocals, and provide a secondary melody to move and lift a song. I wanted to re-record the track myself and pay tribute to this bass brilliance. I managed to locate the original track with the bass removed. So I spent a few hours listening to the original and writing out the bassline as closely as I could hear. I hope others will enjoy my interpretation of Peter’s work,” Jon shared.

Very well done, Jon Willis. Brings back fond summer memories. And yes, a gorgeous bass line as well. More of this, sap!
