Christian McBride and The Philadelphia Experiment Release New Live Album

The Philadelphia Experiment: Live at Newport Jazz 2017Ever since their 2001 album, fans have been clamoring for Christian McBride, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, and Uri Caine to release a new record with their project, The Philadelphia Experiment.

“Y’all been asking for a new Philadelphia Experiment jawn for a while. Welp, get to gettin’!” McBride wrote on Instagram.

The group has released a new vinyl-only live album captured at the 2017 Newport Jazz Festival. It was their fifth-ever performance. The trio of Philadelphians was joined by Bronx-based turntablist DJ Logic as they performed five songs from their original album: “Philadelphia Experiment,” “Call For All Demons,” “Grover,” “Ile Ife,” and “Ain’t It The Truth.”

Each of the musicians is a vinyl aficionado, and as such, the new album was pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI and features a double-pocketed gatefold jacket printed and assembled at Stoughton Printing.

The Philadelphia Experiment live album is limited to 1,900 units and is available through the Newport Festival’s web shop for $50.
