The Headhunters Announce 50th Anniversary Tour Dates

The Headhunters (2023)

The Headhunters are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their band with a set of tour dates. Originally formed in 1973 by keyboardist Herbie Hancock, the group’s fusion of jazz and funk led to a cult following for their albums Head Hunters, Thrust, and Survival of the Fittest.

The group’s current lineup includes percussionist Bill Summers, drummer Mike Clark, saxophonist Donald Harrison, pianist Kyle Roussel, and bassist Chris Severin, who will fill the spot of the late, great Paul Jackson. Severin is a New Orleans native and worked with the city’s greats, including Alvin Batiste, Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Wynton Marsalis, and many more.

“Chris Severin is more than capable. He’s also a brilliant artist,” says Clark. “He can play jazz, funk, latin, anything. He’s an intellectual and as well as having the street knowledge, and especially the New Orleans history in his bones.”

The Headhunters 50th Anniversary Tour will focus on the Northeast. They will begin on February 9th at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City and continue into Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. More dates for the Southeast, Bay Area, and Europe are in the works.

The Headhunters’ latest album, Speakers in the House, was released in November 2022.
