Reader Spotlight: Shaun Andree

Shaun Andree

Meet Shaun Andree, a bassist from Atlanta who has an extensive resume and has one of our favorite answers to the “superpower/claim to fame” question.

Shaun is this week’s No Treble reader in the spotlight (you could be next). Here’s his story…

Bio:

I have played over a thousand gigs in 25 states, co-written internationally distributed albums and movie scores, and scored music for commercials. I play primarily fretless bass.

My touring began at the age of 17 when I toured with the band Frontrunner. With an extensive following throughout the United States, as well as on the international stage, Frontrunner released two successful albums.

I released a solo album The Line Between the Numbers in 2005.

I played in Ugly Radio Rebellion, the backing band for Frank Zappa’s longtime singer Ike Willis and is also in the touring lineup of Poetry Thieves, supporting their number one song “Wings Of My Soul.”

In 2020, my second solo album FLY was released and immediately started getting airplay in 30+ countries.

Location:

Atlanta, GA

Years experience:

35 years.

Why I play the bass:

I was the extra guitar player in a band that needed a bass player.

Gear:

My main bass was an old PBass that I added a Warmoth Ebony neck, Kahler whammy bar, and EMG active pickups. It also has a hipshot D tuner. I’ve had it for 33 years.

My Influences:

Billy Sheehan, Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Geddy Lee.

My bass superpower/claim to fame:

I can play kind of like Billy Sheehan but on fretless bass!
