Ernie Ball Adds Short Scale Gauges to Slinky Flatwound Strings

Ernie Ball Slinky Flatwound Cobalt Bass Strings

This year, Ernie Ball announced two new sets to their Slinky Flatwound Bass lineup at the NAMM Show. The series now has new string gauge combinations designed for short-scale basses in Regular Slinky Short Scale (45-105) and Power Slinky Short Scale (50-110) gauges.

The company says the strings are wound with a patented cobalt alloy ribbon for a “round sound with a flat feel.” You can hear the strings in action with this demo by Taika Tsuyama.

The Ernie Ball Slinky Flatwound Cobalt Bass Strings will be shipping with a TBA price point this summer.

Ernie Ball Slinky Flatwound Cobalt Bass Strings Features:

Precision wound with cobalt alloy ribbon wire
Flexible construction with low finger noise
Round sound and flat feel
Regular Slinky Short Scale (45-105)
Power Slinky Short Scale (50-100)

That demo tells me NOTHING about how these BASS strings sound! Playing them like a bass might help instead of like a guitar! I wanted to hear how the strings sound, not watch some flashy bassist show off…. ~Sheeeesh!!!

This is awesome news! The 2812 (and sometimes 2811) set of Slinky Cobalt Flatwounds has been my go-to strings for a few years now. I have been wanting a shorty bass for awhile, but the fact that there wasn’t a short scale version of these strings kinda held me back. Thanks, EB!
