Tommy Cogbill’s 1966 P-Bass Up For Auction
Another piece of music history will hit the auction block at the end of this month. Session legend Tommy Cogbill’s 1966 Precision Bass will be up for grabs through the “Gotta Have Rock and Roll” auction.
The fabled four-string, which comes with provenance from the family and a letter of authenticity, was used on four albums with Elvis Presley: From Elvis in Memphis (including the hit “In The Ghetto”), From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis, Raised on Rock, and Good Times. The auction also includes photos of Presley with the bass.
Cogbill’s list of hits includes “Respect,” “Memphis Soul Stew,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” “Funky Broadway,” “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You),” and more. If you’re unfamiliar, be sure to check out our Bass Players You Should Know feature on him.
The auction closes on June 30th. “Gotta Have Rock And Roll” has an estimated sale price of between $100,000 and $150,000 with a minimum bid of $75,000. Check out the website for more.
