Video Premiere: Olivier Pinard’s Bass Playthrough of Cryptopsy’s “Lascivious Undivine”

You’re gonna want to buckle up for this one.

Today, we’re excited to premiere a monstrous new bass playthrough by Olivier Pinard. The bassist, who splits his time between Cattle Decapitation and Cryptopsy, shows what it takes to tear through “Lascivious Undivine” from the latter band’s latest album, As Gomorrah Burns.

“Cryptopsy’s ‘As Gomorrah Burns’ is the first album of the band with Nuclear Blast Records and was recorded in June 2022 with guitarist and producer Chris Donaldson,” Pinard shares. “I was just getting back from Denver where I recorded Cattle Decapitation latest album Terrasite with producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio. No need to say that I was warmed up real good already!”

The track is an unrelenting assault from a technical standpoint as well as a tonal one. Pinard gets his boneshaking tone utilizing a Spector Euro5LX with Ernie Ball Strings and EMG 40DC pickups as well as a Darkglass Electronics Microtubes X7 profiled in the Neural DSP Quad Cortex.

This clip demonstrates his incredible left and right hand techniques including some big right hand strumming.

“The Cryptopsy album have to be one of the most challenging album I ever recorded,” he tells us. “Song like this one ‘Lascivious Undivine’ and ‘The Righteous Lost’ are really challenging and push my playing to the extreme. This song is the best track we could possibly use to open the album. The level of technicality of the riffs mixed with the intricate song structure makes this jam of the most satisfying Cryptopsy song from the last decade!”

As Gomorrah Burns is out now on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
