In Memoriam: Del Palmer

Del Palmer

Del Palmer, the longtime bassist for Kate Bush, has died at the age of 71. His family confirmed the news, though a cause of death was not announced.

Palmer was born in London and began his musical career on bass in 1967. He formed several bands over the next few years and signed to Cube Records in 1973. It was in 1977 that the KT Bush Band, featuring Kate Bush, began. Palmer became a fixture of Bush’s studio work, starting with 1978’s Lionheart and running all the way through 2011’s 50 Words for Snow.

In addition to playing bass, he engineered many of Bush’s albums. Palmer and Bush were romantically involved through the early ’90s and remained close friends and collaborators.

In addition to his work with Bush, Palmer released three solo albums: Leap of Faith, Gift, and Point of Safe Return.
