Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer Announce Duo Album, “But Who’s Gonna Play The Melody?”

Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer Announce Duo Album, "But Who's Gonna Play The Melody?"Almost a decade ago, bass titans Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer teamed up for a duo tour where their unique approaches and virtuosity dazzled audiences. Now they’ve teamed up for a duo album titled But Who’s Gonna Play The Melody?

The 15-song record is a collection of original compositions, American Songbook standards, and classic songs by Bluegrass masters.

“Edgar and I come from two different places,” McBride explains. “I come from the jazz and R&B worlds with a little bit of classical, and he comes from the bluegrass and classical worlds with a little bit of jazz. With this album we’re meeting each other in uncharted territory.”

McBride and Meyer were introduced to each other by the late, great Ray Brown, but it took time for them to actually share the stage together. Once they did, they found they actually had lots of music in common.

“The center of our connection is in things that are earthy and funky and rooted in a blues dimension,” Meyer says. “Then it ranges out from there.”

The duo have given fans a preview of the album with the track “Barnyard Disturbance”, a composition by Meyer that originally appeared on his groundbreaking 1997 album Uncommon Ritual.

But Who’s Gonna Play The Melody? Will be released on March 22nd via Mack Avenue. It’s open to pre-order and pre-saving on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon MP3, and more.
