Darkglass Electronics Launches Digital and Analog Combo Amps at NAMM
Darkglass Electronics has expanded their lineup of bass amps with four new combos this year including two analog models and two digital models. Each amp type has two configurations – 2×10″ and 1×12″ – while all four models are rated at 500 watts.
The analog version is called the M Series of combos. They feature Eminence speakers with a class D power section. It has a fairly traditional control setup with a four-band EQ complete with push button Mid knobs to select between frequencies. The Drive control also acts as a push button to cycle between the Vintage Microtubes and Microtubes B3K circuits. A blend knob lets you dial in the mix of dirty to clean signal. Other features include a built-in compressor, a headphone output, an effects loop, a tweeter on/off switch, an Aux-in jack, and an XLR direct out.
Darkglass calls their digital amps the Infinity Series. Nearly every knob on the control panel is a push button to adjust different parameters. The Drive knob lets you pick from their Leo Bass, Vintage Microtubes, Microtubes B3K, or Alpha Omega circuits, but holding it for a long press access the Noise Gate threshold control. The Input knob also activates or deactiveates the effects loop for the preset, the Compression knob lets you put the compressor pre or post drive, Tone lets you toggle between the drive tone and the octaver filter, and more.
Since there’s a lot to dive into, Darkglass lets you store and save five presets. Instead of a four-band EQ, the Infinity Series has a five-band Graphic EQ. Each slider has an LED. When you switch presets, the sliders will turn red if they’re not in the position stored from the preset. Pushing them until they turn blue will put them in the correct position and allow you to adjust from there.
Other features include 7 IR slots, Bluetooth pairing, Mute, a tuner, Post and Pre XLR outputs, Line out, Line in, MIDI in, and a USB port.
The Darkglass Electronics M Series Combo Amps have prices of $1,099 and $1,229. The Infinity combos will go for $1,329 and $1,479.
