Redd Kross Celebrate 45th Anniversary with Self-Titled Double Album
Redd Kross have been at it for decades. The band features brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald, who first got into the L.A. music scene when they were just 15 and 11, respectively. They released their first album as “Red Cross” with a self-titled EP in 1980, and 44 years later they’ve released a self-titled double album.
Redd Kross features 18 tracks with the brothers being joined former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who produced and played drums.
“Josh is 13 years younger than me, and he’s like the younger brother I never had,” said Steven. “He’s a super-talented musician who’s really good at being supportive, and he’s really in-tune with a band’s internal dynamics. And he had us on our best behavior, not wanting to disappoint Josh! His studio is like the most incredible vintage guitar shop — he would take great delight in pulling out some rare instrument or effects box to inspire us.”

Redd Kross was formed in 1979, and as part of their 45th anniversary the band has a new documentary called Born Innocent: The Redd Kross Story on the film festival circuit with a memoir, Now You’re One Of Us, coming out in October.
