Zeal & Ardor Return with “Greif”

Zeal & Ardor: Greif

Zeal & Ardor scored one of the most acclaimed releases of 2022 with their self-titled album. Now, they’ve followed it up with Greif. The band has been primarily a creative outlet for Manuel Gagneux and up until now he has performed all instruments besides drums. Greif changes this by having the rest of the band cut their own tracks.

That includes bassist Lukas Kurmann, who has been with the group since 2019.

Speaking on the album’s intention, Gagneux said, “I wanted to expand upon what we had and introduce new colors. There are angry and accusatory moments, but there’s also some solace and happiness. I’m widening the palette of colors we have to paint with. These are avenues we haven’t tried.”

Part of the palette is a monstrous bass tone from Kurmann. Check out the track “Clawing Out” for a great example:

Greif is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music and Amazon Music).
