New Perspectives Music Introduces Upright Bass Pickup

New Perspectives Music Upright Bass Pickup on Bass

Tim Sway of New Perspectives Music has unveiled a new upright bass pickup that he says he’s been “dreaming about making for decades.” The pickup mounts to the back of your fingerboard with a simple system, while the height of the four ceramic magnets can be easily adjusted.

“Each pickup us wound with 42AWG copper wire to about 5.2K ohms resistance, shielded in copper tubing and topped with a 5/8″ ceramic magnet with about 2lbs pull force,” Sway explains. “With the included Allen key, the player has the ability to easily and accurately ‘dial in’ the perfect pole positioning for their bass and playing technique.”

Sway fits the pickup into handmade housings crafted from reclaimed and locally sourced wood. See his process and hear all about his pickup in this video:

The New Perspectives Music Upright Bass Pickup is available to order for $225.

Interesting video – I was surprised to not see a Pierre Joseph String Charger as one of the inspirations for your pickup. (no longer available, and not sure if Pierre is still with us), but it met most of your criteria.
