Polyphia: Ernie Ball “Big Sound” Session

Ernie Ball has introduced a new artist session video series called “Big Sound” that features up-close studio sessions. They launched it with a three-song set by Texas-based instrumental masters Polyphia captured during rehearsals for their summer tour.

“Watch as these unconventional prodigies perform three songs along with a behind-the-scenes look at some of the gear they use to craft their massive sound,” Ernie Ball writes. “If you’re lucky enough to have seen Polyphia live before, you’ll know how incredibly tight they are, and their rehearsals are no different.”

Bassist Clay Gober delivers the low end with massive tone and nimble bass work. Watch him work on “Genesis,” “Neurotica,” and “Chimera.”

Season one of “Big Sound” will feature future episodes with Cory Wong, Thrice, 7d7d, LS Dunes, and more.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

These youngsters are so incredibly good at their craft; but being a bassist, I think the drummer impresses me the most. His cymbal work is just as impressive as everyone else’s skill level. This WHOLE band is pretty ef’n incredible though!

Full transparency: I didn’t watch the whole video. I kind of skipped around. But I don’t see any of them using any Ernie Ball gear. That’s interesting to me. Am I wrong?
