Jerry Cantrell Taps Robert Trujillo, Duff McKagan for “I Want Blood”

Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell has released his fourth solo album with I Want Blood. As the name suggests, the album comes with a healthy dose of aggression and heaviness.
“This record is a serious piece of work. It’s [expletive],” Cantrell says. “It’s hard, no doubt, and completely unlike the last one. And that’s what you want, to end up in a different place.”
I Want Blood brings back many of the guitar hero’s favorite musicians. He’s joined by drummer Gil Sharone, keyboardist Vincent Jones, drummer Mike Bordin, and vocalists Lola Colette, Greg Puciato, and Maxwell Urasky. Cantrell handles guitar and vocals for the whole album, even playing bass on four tracks.
The rest of the bass is handled by Metallica’s Robert Trujillo and Guns N’ Roses’s low-ender Duff McKagan. Each has performed on Cantrell’s previous solo efforts. Trujillo and Bordin formed the rhythm section for 2002’s Degradation Trip. McKagan lent his talent to 2021’s Brighten.
Check out the album opener, “Vilified,” which features Trujillo on bass.
I Want Blood is available now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music and Amazon Music).
