Tony Senatore with Bob Quaranta and Joe Deninzon: Vocalise
Tony Senatore sent us his latest video, which he said was “four years in the making.”
“I initially recorded a version in 2005 on my ‘Holyland’ CD but decided to do an alternate version utilizing effects on my bass, which is a new area for me to explore. The 2020 pandemic and scheduling issues almost made me abandon this project, but I am glad I persevered,” Tony shared. “I am grateful to have Joe Deninzon of the legendary band Kansas on violin and Bob Quaranta (of the also legendary) Ed Palermo Big Band on piano.”
Tony described the song: “‘Vocalise’ is a song by Sergei Rachmaninoff, composed and published in 1915 as the last of his 14 Songs or 14 Romances, Op. 34. Written for high voice (soprano or tenor) with piano accompaniment, it contains no words, but is sung using only one vowel of the singer’s choosing. It was dedicated to soprano singer Antonina Nezhdanova. It is performed in various instrumental arrangements more frequently than in the original vocal version.”
