Ernie Ball Music Man Adds Colors to John Myung Bongo 6 Bass

Dream Theater’s 16th studio album, Parasomnia, is coming in January. Ernie Ball Music Man is helping to celebrate by refreshing the John Myung Artist Series Bongo 6 with two new finishes: Midnight Blue and Sunset Orange. The six-string bass, exclusive to the Ernie Ball Music Man Vault, was designed by the player himself and originally introduced in 2020.

“The John Myung artist series Bongo is crafted to John’s exacting specifications to be sleek, ultra-modern, and perfectly designed. In a collaboration spanning more than a decade, John and the Ernie Ball Music Man engineering team have refined and enhanced the comfort, playability and performance of the bass to meet the needs of the most demanding players,” the company shares. “This includes key features like the simplified control layout with efficiently pre-specified EQ and a new killswitch to increase functionality and creative control.”

The bass is crafted with a basswood body, roasted maple neck, and a combination of rosewood and roasted maple fretboard in a “golden ratio aesthetic.” Other features include dual humbucking pickups with neodymium magnets, a five-way pickup blend knob, and custom lightweight Music Man tuners.

The Ernie Ball Music Man John Myung v2 Bongo 6 can be ordered now for $3,099. At the time of this article, the Midnight Blue version is in stock, while Sunset Orange will ship in four months.
