Andy Rourke Mural Unveiled in Manchester

The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke tragically died of pancreatic cancer in 2023 at just 59 years old. Now his image has become part of an effort to raise awareness of the disease.
An enormous mural of the Rourke has been painted onto the side fo the Wheatsheaf Pub in Manchester, where The Smiths was first formed. It was crowd-funded in an effort spear-headed by his former bandmate and drummer Mike Joyce. After reaching their fundraising effort for the mural, all proceeds were donated to the charity organization Pancreatic Cancer Action. A QR code beside the mural leads people to information about the disease, as well.
The mural on the Wheatsheaf Pub is located at 30 Oak Street in Manchester, UK. More information and ways to donate can be found on the mural’s CrowdFunder page.
