Bassist Wanted: US Coast Guard Band Announces 2025 Auditions

The United States Coast Guard Band has a vacancy for the bass position and they’re looking to fill it. The band has posted the job and all the audition requirements to their website.
“We are hiring a bass player with experience in a variety of musical settings (notably, concert band, big band, and small jazz combos),” they posted to Facebook. “Preliminary recordings and resumes are due January 4, 2025, and live auditions for invitees based on recordings will be on February 10, 2025.”
The position requires double bass and electric bass guitar. Required pieces for the audition include a classical solo piece, a classical excerpt, jazz combo playing, and several pop/rock songs on electric. There will also be a sight-reading component.
The USCGB is stationed at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Starting salary for the bass role is between $69,500 and $76,200 with full military benefits, paid medical, 30 days paid vacation, and more. No basic training is required, but the audition winner will have to meet all military standards to enlist in the Coast Guard. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder.
