BadBadNotGood is heading out on the road this spring with North American dates that will see the trio turn into a sextet. The core trio of Al Sow, Chester Hansen, and Leland Whitty will be joined by Felix Fox-Pappas (keys), Kaelin Murphy (trumpet) and Juan Carlos Medrano Magallanes (percussion), all of whom performed on last year’s Mid Spiral album.

Things kick off on April 9th with a trio of shows in Mexico before a run of U.S. dates starting May 1st. They’ll focus on the East Coast with major cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. After heading as far south as Georgia, Hansen and the band will cut north through the Midwest. The final shows will be a two-night run at Thalia Hall in Chicago, Illinois on May 15 and 16.

BadBadNotGood got their name from blending hip-hop with jazz, but Mid Spiral opens their style even further with elements of rock, funk, and latin music. Hear the new stuff with the title track, “Mid Spiral,” featuring Hansen’s heavy grooves. (Don’t miss the sick bass fill at the 3:21 mark.)
