Inside the Craftsmanship of Elwray’s New Walnut-Bodied WN Bass

Elwray Basses WN5 Bass

Elwray Basses has unveiled a new instrument called the WN, which takes its name from the walnut used in its creation. Available in four or five-string versions, the bass is crafted with a two-piece Burgundy walnut body as well as a flamed maple neck with walnut laminations. Along with an ebony fingerboard, luthier Marco Bourse says the “combination of sound proven woods is the 101 of a good recipe.”

Bourse utilizes a set of Bartolini M34C or M45C pickups with parallel wiring and the option of VVT or VTVT passive controls. He also offers either a Hipshot B-style bridge or a Gotoh 404 bridge. The tuners are Gotoh GB350 Res-O-Lites.

I have used a couple of Tascam bass trainers (with cds) over the years and they are great units but recently both of them died on me. Specifically the bass input went dead. You can still listen to cds but you can’t use with an instrument. They were used very gently, never dropped. One day they worked, next day nothing. I’ve had a couple of very capable repairmen look at them but weren’ t able to get them working . Has anybody else had this problem with them? My units were made in 2004 and 2006.
