Sex Pistols Reunite Without Johnny Rotten: “I Can’t See Many Missed Calls from Him”

Sex Pistols 2025

For the first time in two decades, the punk pioneers in the Sex Pistols have announced a North American tour. The outing will see three-fourths of the original members performing their only studio album – Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols – in its entirety.

The 2025 lineup will feature guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock joined by frontman Frank Carter. Original singer John Lydon (formerly Rotten) was not contacted to participate in the reunion. Most of his communications with his former bandmates seem to have been through litigation.

“Good luck to him,” says Matlock. “I wish he thinks, maybe, ‘good luck’ to us. Probably doesn’t. But over the years, John (has had) all our phone numbers, and I can’t see many missed calls from him.”

The tour will begin on September 16th at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, Texas. Over the next month, they’ll perform in 13 cities before wrapping up at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California, on October 16th.

Matlock, who will be 69 years old at the time of the tour, says they may not have the same stage antics of their 1978 tour, but they make up for it in musicality.

“We’re a bit older but we play just as well, if not better,” says Matlock. “And I think that’s something that’s got a great deal of aplomb that we’re going to bring to the public over there.”
