It Took Years to Master This Jaco Pastorius Classic: Watch Léo Chazallet’s Take on “Havona”

Jaco Pastorius’s “Havona” is a beast of a tune, but that didn’t stop Léo Chazallet from tackling it.

“I’ve wanted to record this piece for a long time,” Léo shared. “This is a piece I’ve been playing nearly every day for years as it is part of my practice routine, and I felt it was finally time to share my take on this masterpiece. It took weeks of detailed work and careful listening to find the right fingerings, accents, phrasing, dynamics, and string choices for each phrase. This is where the true art of transcription resides.”

“On a gear note, I’m excited to record with my 2013 Fender Jazz Bass American Deluxe Fretless. This bass was defretted by Guitares Barry – luthier, and more recently, following the advice of Bireli Lagrene Official, it was expertly epoxy-coated to perfection by Jürgen Attig,” he added.

Well done, Léo!
