Sirena’s Cometa Bass Melds Vintage Hollowbody Vibe with Handcrafted Modern Design

This week, we’re checking out another incredible bass built by Jeremy Kirsch of Sirena Basses, which is just oozing with old-school cool. The Cometa pays homage to vintage hollow-body basses by Kay and Harmony that have skyrocketed in value on the used market in recent years. Kirsch took the general concept and put his own spin on it, incorporating some contemporary improvements.
“The Cometa has a really stable clamshell body construction and also includes such features as a 3-piece laminated neck, heavy-duty neck bolt anchors, and a resin-cast AlNiCo 5 humbucker. As with all Sirena basses, the Cometa has hand-fabricated custom hardware, including a unique floating bridge and tailpiece design,” he explains.
The bass’s body is constructed from alder and poplar while the three-piece walnut neck is fitted with a smoked Birdseye maple fretboard. Kirsch built the Cometa as a true hollowbody, meaning there is no center block runnding down the center of the bass. “This gives the bass a warm mid-range and a short, aggressive attack curve,” the luthier shares. “Carefully designed and constructed reinforcements integrated into the top and back strengthen and add rigidity to the body.”
Other features include bolt-on construction, a short 30-inch scale, and Hipshot Ultralite tuners. Kirsch shared a “quick, no-budget demo” of the Cometa to hear its retro vibes.

🤩 I love the vintage / modern design, overall a very unique and beautiful look. The custom components are streamlined and complementary to the shape and hues. The sound is deep and clear. Where can I hear more?
great looking bass, the sound is fantastic, I checked out the website, at $3k too rich for me.
I’ll stick to my original 60’s kay 5915.
