Marcus Miller Joins Ron Carter, Corcoran Holt, and More at 2025 DC JazzFest

The grooves in the nation’s capital will be heavy this August. The 2025 DC JazzFest previously announced that Ron Carter and Corcoran Holt would be returning as Artists in Residence, but now they’re filling out the low end even more by revealing that bass great Marcus Miller is joining the lineup. It will be one of Miller’s few North American concerts this year, as he will be touring Europe this summer and fall.
“Marcus Miller is a singular force in modern music and a brilliant addition to our 2025 lineup,” said DCJF CEO Sunny Sumter. “We are thrilled to present his extraordinary artistry to DC audiences.”
Carter and Holt will perform their own sets and be on hand to sit in with other artists. It was a profoundly emotional performance for Carter last year, as his DC JazzFest appearance occurred just days after the passing of his trio member, Russell Malone. He and pianist Donald Vega went on with the performance, leaving Malone’s amp on stage with them and intermittently playing a melody in his honor throughout the concert.
Check out the magic of his performance:
In addition to the aforementioned bass legends, the festival will have a stacked lineup of talent including NEA Jazz Masters Eddie Palmieri, Branford Marsalis, Gary Bartz, and Marshall Allen leading Sun Ra Arkestra, acclaimed vocalists Lalah Hathaway and Cécile McLorin Salvant, plus John Scofield, Emmet Cohen, Matthew Whitaker, Keyon Harrold, The Baylor Project, The String Queens, and more. DC has its own thriving jazz scene and local artists Herb Scott, Paul Carr, Akua Allrich, and more will share their music.
The DC JazzFest at The Wharf is held August 27th through the 31st in Washington, DC. For more info, visit the DC JazzFest website.
