Bass Wizardry and Falsetto Funk: Thundercat’s Genre-Bending Bonnaroo 2024 Set

Thundercat hit Bonnaroo 2024 with a set that was all groove and personality. He opened with “Lost in Space / Great Scott / 22-26” and never let up, moving from tight funk lines to wild jazz runs. Playing his six-string Ibanez, he got a thick, fuzzy tone that stayed clear enough to let every note speak.

The band was locked in and gave him room to stretch out. He dropped quick chord stabs, slapped rhythms, and melodic leads that felt effortless. Between songs he joked with the crowd, keeping it loose without losing focus.

This was Thundercat doing what he does best. Complex and precise but always fun. A reminder that serious chops and a good time don’t have to be separate things.
