Digbeth Foundry: Laney’s Budget Bass Amp Series With Mixable FET and Drive Channels
After unveiling the high-end Nathan East Signature bass head in April, Laney Amplification has expanded its Digbeth bass amp range into the more budget-friendly territory. The new Digbeth Foundry series includes one head unit – the DBF200H – as well as four combo amps: the DBF30, the DBF50, the DBF100, and the DBF200. Laney describes the lineup’s feature set as “everything you need, nothing you don’t.”
The Foundry Series begins with the DBF30, a 30-watt practice amp with clean and drive settings, a three-band EQ, and a Tilt EQ. When turned clockwise, the Tilt knob increases overall mid to high frequencies and decreases the lows, while turning it counter-clockwise does the opposite. A Preshape switch applies a mid-scoop EQ curve to quickly jump into slap or rock sounds. Laney equipped the amp with aux-in and headphone-out jacks for versatile practice.
The DBF50 steps things up to 50 watts while adding more controls to the drive section. Aside from independent Drive and Volume knobs for the Drive channel, it has a Mix setting. “The DBF50 features a Mix setting on the channel selection that allows you to get the benefits of the clear precise bass tone of the FET channel, and the warmth and articulation of the DRIVE channel, giving you the best of both worlds,” Laney writes. The DBF50 also steps up the conectivity with a DI-out and an effects loop.
The DBF100 retains the features of the DBF50, but ups the ante with 100 watts of power and a four-way mid-frequency voicing knob in the EQ. Finally, the DBF200 has all the same features of the DBF100 with 200 watts of power, and the DBF200H is the head version of the amplifier.
The Laney Digbeth Foundry series is shipping now with prices ranging from $349.99 for the DBF30 to $829.99 for the DBF200.
