AC Guitars Über RSK 5/32: A 32-Inch Scale Bass with Venomous Looks and Next-Level Craftsmanship

Alan Cringean of AC Guitars is known for his unique body shapes and use of beautiful woods, but this bass is on another level. This Über RSK 5/32 is a prime example of his best work. In a Facebook video, Cringean explained that “This has pretty much got everything that it can have. I think the only thing the customer didn’t want was the on-board coffeemaker.”
The stunning bass is a five-string with a 32-inch scale. Its amapola body is sandwiched between a top and back of American sycamore that is Acrylic Resin Treated, or ART, for short. “The process makes use of acrylic monomers and dyes in order to infuse the wood,” Cringean explains. “This takes place in a vacuum oven and produces woods which have a totally unique look to them. The process itself is entirely random in where the stain takes and how much it takes, so every board will be different.”
The red and black veneers with the top’s figuring give the bass the appearance of a venomous snake. Cringean repurposed leftovers from the top to make unique markers in the ebony fretboard while Luminlay dots adorn the side. The bass’s neck is equally impressive, featuring a nine-piece construction made of padauk, purpleheart, bloodwood, yellowheart, and wenge.
As part of the Über series, this RSK model is fitted with all of AC’s top features, including their multi-coil pickups, their DFM 4K preamp, an ACG/Hipshot bridge, and Gotoh GB350 Resolite tuners. Here more about the bass from Cringean himself:
