Myung’s Precision Bass Work Powers Dream Theater’s Latest Live Release

Dream Theater has released a new video from Quarantième: Live à Paris, filmed last November at the Adidas Arena. The clip features the medley of “Overture 1928” into “Strange Déjà Vu,” giving fans a preview of the upcoming live release.

John Myung takes center stage with his six string Music Man Bongo, and the mix gives his lines more presence than usual. The clarity of his tone makes every phrase stand out, from the unison runs with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess to the pulsing low end that drives the verses. When Mike Portnoy pushes the band into overdrive, Myung keeps everything locked down with precision and ease. His six string Bongo is the quiet force behind the performance, shaping the band’s sound and anchoring the music while the rest of Dream Theater takes flight
