Iron Maiden’s long and storied history is being examined in a new documentary, Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition, and fans are now getting a first look at the film. A new trailer gives shares bits of archival footage as well as interview clips from Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, Tom Morello, and Chuck D.

Burning Ambition follows the legendary metal band’s entire five-decade history, from the pubs of East London to the biggest stadiums around the globe. The band members themselves reveal the ups and downs of their career in new, intimate interviews. As Billboard explains, they’ve sold over 100 million records and performed over 2,500 concerts, but “the rockers have endured lineup changes, burnout, health problems.”

“Any long career is going to have ups and downs, and you just kind of ride with it,” bassist and founder Steve Harris says in the clip.

Harris, known for his distinctive galloping and driving bass lines, formed Iron Maiden in 1975 and has been the sole constant member ever since. He wrote many of the band’s biggest hits, including “Run to the Hills,” “The Trooper,” “Aces High.” His leadership led to some lineup changes, such as the decision to replace original singer Paul Di’Anno with Bruce Dickinson in 1981.

“Steve had this vision,” we hear in the trailer, “and if you interfered with that vision, you were not going to stay with this band.”

Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition is coming exclusively to theaters on May 7th. Watch the trailer below and visit the film’s website to find a showing near you.
