You Came for Larry Carlton and Robben Ford You Stay for the Bass

A full 2007 set from North Sea Jazz Festival featuring Larry Carlton and Robben Ford has recently surfaced on YouTube, and it is a deep one.  On bass is Travis Carlton, Larry’s son, and he plays a much bigger role than you might expect. He is on a Sadowsky 5 string, running through SWR and Aguilar gear, delivering a tone that is clean, full, and smooth.  His lines are melodic, his feel is steady, and he moves between pocket and lead phrasing without breaking the flow.

Carlton and Ford trade ideas all night and Travis is there keeping it all together.
