Bass of the Week: Serek’s 32-Inch Five-String Midwestern 2 Nails Comfort and Tone

Serek 5-string Midwestern 2

This week, we’re featuring a stunning five-string Midwestern 2 from Serek Basses. The 32-inch-scale bass is all mahogany with an ebony fingerboard, evoking a rich color scheme to match its elegant body contours.

Its body shape is sleek and functional, with a lower cutaway that offers full access to the fingerboard’s 21 frets. The fingerboard also has a compound radius to provide comfort across every register.

Luthier Jake Serek offers several pickup options on the Midwestern 2, but this particular one is fitted with a pair of Nordstrand Zen Blades controlled with a three-way toggle. Other features include Hipshot Ultralite tuners, a Hipshot Vintage Style bridge, and a bone nut. All in, the bass weighs around 7.5 pounds, making it a lightweight tone machine.
