Tom Kennedy Reaches New Heights With Star-Studded Solo Album, “The Summit”

Tom Kennedy The SummitTom Kennedy is back with a new solo album, entitled The Summit. The record features nine of his original compositions and a killer’s row of musicians: Dave Weckl, Stu Mindeman, Terell Stafford, Bob Franceschini, Ryan Devlin, Roger Squitero, Matthias Bistan, and Hugh Lindsay. It’s proves once again how accomplished Kennedy is as at both playing and writing songs.

“Knowing, playing, and being friends with Tom since we were 15 years old, it’s so wonderful to see him grow as a composer, and see his bass playing, both on upright and electric, continue to mature and blossom,” Weckl said of the album. “It’s an honor to be asked to play on, mix, and co-produce this wonderful project with him! The musicianship is off the charts brilliant from all that participated!”

The Summit explores jazz, funk, and Latin textures over its 57-minute runtime. You can get a feel for Kennedy’s electric bass style on “Fair & Debonaire.”

“The Run” features his upright chops as it evolves from a groove-based tune into a straight-ahead swing for the solo section. It switches back to the original feel for his own highly melodic bass solo.

The Summit is streaming now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other digital platforms. CDs will be available soon from Tom Kennedy’s website.
