The Smashing Pumpkins Announce “Rats in a Cage” Tour Celebrating “Mellon Collie” with Jack Bates

The Smashing Pumpkins Rats in a Cage Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced the “Rats in a Cage” Tour, which will celebrate the recent 30th anniversary of their hit album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Each night will include two unique sets of the album as well as “nearly four decades of unruly hits and dark treasures.”

The tour will kick off on September 30th in Columbus, Ohio. From there, they’ll hit the East Coast and head north as far as Montreal, Quebec. They’ll zig-zag up and down the U.S. and Canada for nearly two months, eventually ending in Huntington Beach, California at the Darker Waves Festival on November 14th.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness spawned several classics including “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “Tonight, Tonight,” “1979,” and more. It featured former member D’arcy Wretzky, but the Pumpkins have featured bassist Jack Bates as a touring member since 2015.

The Smashing Pumpkins held a funeral for “Zero” to announce the tour that included a performance. Watch Bates tear through the classics alongside frontman Billy Corgan:
