Sleep Returns With “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” and New Lineup

Sleep with 2026 Album Cover

Sleep has awoken. The stoner metal icons have announced their first new music in eight years, as well as a North American tour for the fall. The news comes with some change, though, as bassist/bandleader Al Cisneros has rebuilt the lineup.

Sleep now consists of Cisneros (the band’s sole founding member), Melvins drummer Dale Crover, and Void guitarist Bubba Dupree. The new single, “Have Spacesuit Will Travel,” marks the band’s first single since 2018 and the first without longtime guitarist Matt Pike.

“The vibe of the first jam was obvious,” Cisneros says of the new song. “It was blue sunglasses-era Iommi in the quality, and equally awesome is Bubba is also one of the coolest people I’ve been able to make music with.”

Cisneros and Sleep will be on tour this fall with two North American legs. The first kicks off on September 8th in San Diego, California and will focus on the West Coast for the duration of the month. Things pick up again on November 4th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From there, they’ll cover the Midwest and East Coast, finishing up November 17th in Washington, DC.

“Have Spacesuit Will Travel” is streaming now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other platforms. It’s also available through Third Man Records in a Flexi Disc format with a limited edition comic book written by Cisneros.
