Remembering BBC Symphony Orchestra Double Bassist Elen Pan
It’s another sad day in the music world as the BBC Symphony Orchestra has announced the death of double bassist Elen Pan. They dedicated their performance on July 22nd to her memory.
“We are deeply saddened by the recent death of Elen Pan, a much-loved and highly valued member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra,” they shared on Facebook. “In the words of her friends and colleagues in the double bass section: ‘Elen was an incredibly talented bass player who was a joy to have in our section.’ ‘Her positivity and warmth were felt by everyone who met her.’”
Pan was of Taiwanese and French descent. She began playing piano at just 4 years old, switching to double bass at 10. She studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien.
Pan traveled the world playing with numerous groups: the Paris Lauréat Conservatory Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, ensemble 2e2m, and more. She joined the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2020.
